Colorado is known for its “14ers” – the label given to mountain peaks over 14 thousand feet above sea level. The views are breathtaking and reaching the summit of one of these peaks provides an undeniable sense of achievement. The College of Letters, Arts & Sciences also offers a collection of peak learning experiences that offer opportunities to strengthen your skills and prepare you for your next challenge.
Peak Learning Experiences (PLE) is a college-wide initiative to prepare our students to thrive in today's job market and beyond. LAS offers many opportunities for students to acquire the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to make informed career choices in this ever-changing labor market.
Peak Learning Experiences are types of High-Impact Educational Practices (HIPs) shown to significantly contribute to student learning, prepare students for futures careers (Kuh, 2008), advance faculty teaching and research, and positively contribute to the Colorado Springs community.
Kuh, George D 2008. High-Impact Education Practices: What they are, Who has access to them, and why they matter. Washington, DC: Association of American Colleges and Universities.
Peak Learning Experiences support the core values of the College of Letters, Arts & Sciences in helping to prepare students for a lifetime of growth, engagement, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Participation in one or more Peak Learning Experiences will foster student growth to maximize opportunities for productive employment and post-graduate education.
Peak Learning Experiences offers multiple opportunities for students to engage with peers, faculty, and the broader community, to strengthen and apply theoretical knowledge and skills to real-world careers and problems.
LAS provides students with real-world experiences to help develop the skills employers’ value, including critical thinking, analytical skills, team work, and communication.
Whether your goal is graduate school or a career, each of our “peaks” will enhance and enrich your ability to pursue your chosen path.
